Ingredients:
1 pound plain flour
50 grams butter (conversion: 3-1/2 Tablespoons)
1/2 pound sultanas
1/2 pound currants
1 teaspoon dry yeast
1/2 pint warm milk
50 grams sugar (conversion: 4 Tablespoons)
1/4 pound mixed peel
1 teaspoon cinnamon
pinch of nutmeg (ground)
pinch of salt
2 eggs
1 golden ring (substitute golden ring with a whole hazelnut or almond) or leave out
 
Directions:
Warm the milk and mix with half of the sugar and the yeast, let the mixture cure for a while in a warm place. Mix flour, salt and spices in a bowl, add butter and the rest of the sugar - stir until you have a good mixture, then add the milk-yeast-mixture and the eggs, beating all with some enthusiasm to a creamy consistence. Add all other ingredients and mix well.
 
Pour the mixture into a greased baking form lined with greased paper, cover with a towel and let the dough rise to about double height in a warm place. Bake for 60 minutes at 390 degrees.

·         Children may accidentally swallow the ring, it also is a choking hazard! 
·         Never use a plastic ring, this will melt and spoil the cake!
If you have any concerns about using a ring in the cake - leave it out or substitute with a whole hazelnut or almond.
